The Beginning
1984
A New Identity
The company officially changed its name from Shiya Fairprice Sdn. Bhd. to Shiya Sdn. Bhd., reflecting a clearer direction and long-term commitment to the construction and development sector.
1996
Building Industry Recognition
Marcus Group obtained its CIDB Class D (Grade 4) contractor licence together with the Sijil Perolehan Kerja Kerajaan (SPKK) and Sijil Taraf Bumiputera (STB), marking an important milestone in expanding its project capabilities.
1999
Achieving Grade 7 Status
Marcus Group achieved CIDDB Grade 7, the highest contractor classification awarded by CIDB. This milestone significantly expanded the company’s capabilities and opened opportunities to deliver larger and more complex developments nationwide.
2000
Delivering Essential Public Facilities
Marcus Group completed several important public sector developments including:
- Workshop & Stores, Taman Mount Austin
- Additional School Blocks at SK Sungai Tiram
These projects demonstrated the company’s growing experience in delivering public infrastructure and educational facilities.
2001
Growing Through Public Sector Projects
Marcus Group completed:
- Additional School Blocks at SMK Kelapa Sawit, Kulai
- School Hall at SMK Anjung Batu, Mersing
- Additional Buildings at SRK Tenggaroh 5, Mersing
These projects reinforced the company’s reputation in education infrastructure.
2004
Expanding into Residential Development
Marcus Group successfully completed 90 single-storey bungalows in Bandar Nusajaya, marking an important step in expanding its residential development portfolio.
2008
Expanding Infrastructure Expertise
The acquisition of the Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) licence expanded Marcus Group’s expertise in infrastructure and utility-related works, supporting more comprehensive township developments.

A Civil Engineering graduate with over 30 years of industry experience, Dato’ Abdullah Bin Yusup has built an accomplished career spanning engineering, construction, and property development. Beginning as a Site Engineer, he progressed through senior project and management roles with leading contractors and developers, contributing to major municipal, industrial, and township developments, including Bandar Nusajaya, Johor. Today, as Chief Executive Officer of Shiya Sdn. Bhd., he provides strategic leadership backed by decades of technical expertise and a strong commitment to delivering quality, sustainable developments.
